Cultivating peace in daily life.

Today's Theme: Priority

Make peace a priority.

Theme for the 4th day of the month:

I’m too busy!” How often do we say it, think it, and hear it from others? This simple expression is a common explanation for how the most important things in life can get pushed into the background. Once in the background, they can easily disappear into forgetfulness. When we’ve lost touch with what’s most important to us, there is no perspective and definitely no peace.

We all have many demands on our time and energy every day. Some of these demands are genuinely important. Other demands, that seem just as persistent and pressing, may have little or no importance at all. It’s these demands that steal time from our true priorities. We have to choose.

Today’s theme highlights the way we use time. It’s an invitation to exercise the ability to prioritize—to say yes to what’s really important and no to those things that have little genuine value. It’s about planning and organizing the day with our highest priorities in mind. Today is a day to refuse to waste time on the unimportant, the trivial, the toxic, and the meaningless—a day to remember who and what really matters.

One of the intentions of the Rhythm of Peace Project is that it be a gentle reminder to remember peace each day. Peace is important to everyone. Its absence is not something to get used to. If we develop the habit of keeping peace in our awareness every day—even if only briefly—we will remember. And because we remember, it will grow in us and influence the way we live.
