Pray for peace
May we support and encourage each other along the way.
May we discover and celebrate the true spirit of community.
May peace live in our hearts,
and may peace flow from our hearts into the world...
Buddhist Prayer
May we have peace.
May we be of good will,
today and always.
May I be peaceful, happy, and light in body and spirit.
May I be free from injury. May I live in safety.
May I be free from disturbance, fear, anxiety, and worry.
May I learn to look at myself with the eyes of understanding and love.
May I be able to recognize and touch the seeds of joy and happiness in myself.
May I learn to identify and see the sources of anger, craving, and delusion in myself.
May I know how to nourish the seeds of joy in myself every day.
May I be able to live fresh, solid, and free.
May I be free from attachment and aversion, but not be indifferent.
Now I say to you...
life is hard,
at times as hard as crucible steel.
It has its bleak and difficult moments.
Like the ever-flowing waters of the river,
life has its moments of drought and its moments of flood.
Like the ever-changing cycle of the seasons,
life has the soothing warmth of its summers
and the piercing chill of its winters.
But if we hold on,
we will discover that God walks with us,
and that God is able to lift us from the fatigue of despair
to the buoyancy of hope,
and transform dark and desolate valleys
into sunlit paths of inner peace.
Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Father,
send now Your Spirit over the earth.
Let the Holy Spirit live
in the hearts of all peoples
that they may be preserved
from degeneration, disaster and war.
May the Lady of All Peoples,
who once was Mary,
intercede on our behalf.
Amen
Prayer from the Dalai Lama
I believe all religions pursue the same goals, that of cultivating human goodness
and bringing happiness to all human beings.
I pray for all of us, oppressor and friend, that together we succeed in building a better world
through human understanding and love,
and that in doing so we may reduce the pain and suffering of all sentient beings.
From the Dalai Lama's acceptance speech for the Nobel Peace Prize
Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi
Lord, make me an instrument of Thy peace;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master,
grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood, as to understand;
to be loved, as to love;
for it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life.
Amen.
"Prayer" - Maya Angelou
Father, Mother, God,
Thank you for your presence
during the hard and mean days,
for then we have you to lean upon.
Thank you for your presence
during the bright and sunny days,
for then we can share that which we have
with those who have less.
And thank you for your presence
during the Holyl Days, for then we are able
to celebrate You
and our families and our friends.
For those who have no voice,
we ask you to speak.
For those who feel unworthy,
we ask you to pour your love out
in watefalls of tenderness.
For those who live in pain,
we ask you to bathe them
in the river of your healing.
For those who are lonely, we ask
you to keep them company.
For those who are depressed,
we ask yo uto shower upon them
the light of hope.
Dear Creater, You, the borderless sea of substance,
we ask you to give to all the world
that which we most need - Peace.
"Beannacht" - John O'Donohue
May the nourishment of the earth be yours,
may the clarity of light be yours,
may the fluency of the ocean be yours,
may the protecton of the ancestors be yours.
And so may a slow wind
work these words of love around you,
an invisible cloak, to mind your life.
"Refuse to Fall Down" - Clarissa Pinkola Estes
Refuse to fall down.
If you cannot refuse to fall down,
refuse to stay down.
If you cannot refuse to stay down,
lift your heart toward heaven
and like a hungry beggar,
ask that it be filled,
and it will be filled.
You may be pushed down.
You may be kept from rising.
But no one can keep you
from lifting your heart
toward heaven--
only you.
It is in the midst of misery
that so much becomes clear.
The one who says nothing good
came of this,
is not yet listening.
Prayer for World Peace - Jane Goodall
We pray because of the hope that is wtihin us,
and because of a faith in the ultimate triumph of the human spirit.
We pray because of our love for Creation, and because of our trust in God.
We pray, above all, for peace throughout the world.
