Cultivating peace in daily life.

Outline for small group gathering

Here's a sample outline for getting together with friends to focus on cultivating peace:

1.  Opening (5 minutes)

Light a candle in the center of your circle.
Read a favorite prayer, poem or vision for peace to begin the meeting.  Example:

We gather here today/tonight to encourage and support
each other in making peace a priority.
We acknowledge and embrace our diverse interests and talents.
We strive to cultivate peace in our hearts, our homes, our relationslhips,
our workplaces, and our community.
May peace live in our hearts.
May peace live in the hearts of all people.

2.  Meditation (10 minutes)

The Rhythm of Peace Project promotes healthy living as a foundation for peace.  A few minutes of relaxation or meditation supports a transition from other activities, helps to focus attention, releases stress, and opens the heart...

3.  Reflect on the daily theme (30 minutes)

Read and discuss the Rhythm of Peace theme for the day.

4.  Share and support actions for peace (30 minutes)

Discuss the questions:

"What will I do this week to cultivate peace in my inner/outer life?"
"What action will I take that is wholehearted, authentic, and honors the current circumstances of my life?"

5.  Closing (5 minutes)

Confirm the date, time, and place of the next meeting.

Close with a prayer, a piece of poetry, a piece of music or a blessing.  Example:

May we each find the strength and resolve to cultivate peace in our daily activities.
May our hearts awaken to the true spirit of peace,
and may we each grow in our abilities to express compassion, kindness, patience, and love...

Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow has not yet come. We have only today. Let us begin. ~Mother Teresa
