Today's Theme: Great Rhythms
Remember the big picture.
Theme for the 21st day of the month:
We each have a path to travel in life and an allotment of time to travel it. The seasons of our lives unfold against the background of the Great Rhythms of the earth and the sun—rhythms that sustain us every day. The twenty-first day of the month naturally draws our attention to these larger rhythms, especially during the months of a season change.
Each season has come before and each will come again. We can depend on this, no matter what changes for us personally or nationally. Unlike many of our human rhythms, which are vulnerable to stress and chaos, the harmony of the Great Rhythms is certain, and with this certainty comes a breath of peace.
As we reflect on the Great Rhythms, we gain perspective. In the presence of their mysterious harmony, we expand. We stand back and lift our gaze from the details in front of us. We look out over the whole panorama of our lives and see the threads that connect where we’ve been with where we’re going. We take the long view.
We’re reminded that we’re not islands in this sea of life and that whatever today’s weather, it will change. In the grand scope of things, our personal challenges take on new meaning, and we’re supported in re-connecting with the deeper purposes of life.
Today’s theme turns our attention to the larger rhythms of life. It’s a day to take note of sunrise and sunset, the mood of nature, the light and colors of the season, and the messages from the stars. In the larger context of our life story we can each ask:
Am I doing what I need to do?
Is there something that I need to change?
By reflecting on the Great Rhythms, we invite order and perspective into today’s challenges. The rhythm of peace finds its home in the Great Rhythms that enfold us all.
